[Micronet] Apple Norcal-hied Digest, Vol 2, Issue 1

Petersen, Joanne

I recently subscribed to Apple's Northern CA higher education mailing list.  I received the email below and would like to know if this Micronet list would like me to continue forwarding these notices here, or if it's a duplication of information that already is available and I should not send future notices.  Thanks!  (For those who want to subscribe directly, that information is also below.)

Best regards,

NorCal Hi Ed List,

Yesterday evening Apple released some updates for the Pro App tools. Please see details below.

If you have any questions please reach out to your Apple systems engineer or account executive.

Professional Application Tools

Final Cut Pro X 10.0.7

This update improves overall stability, performance and compatibility including:

• The Letterbox effect "Offset" slider has been restored

• Fixes an issue when creating a single layer DVD • Fixes an issue where some third-party effects could cause Final Cut Pro to hang during background rendering • Fixes an issue where some third-party transitions would incorrectly use black instead of source media

• Adds support for editing MXF files that are still ingesting • Fixes an issue rendering Motion Templates containing Image Units

Motion 5.0.6 [What’s New]

This update improves overall stability and performance including:

• Fixes an issue where Image Units were removed when a project was saved • Fixes issues when working with multiple documents on dual displays

Compressor 4.0.6 [Product Website]

This update improves overall stability, performance and compatibility including:

Fixes an issue with the upload of clips of greater than 1 GB to Vimeo

Honorable Mention - Other Previously Announced Products and Software

PassBook Resources & Information

For anybody looking for more info on exactly how you build Passbook passes - there's lots of info for developers here -

https://developer.apple.com/passbook/

including the two "Introducing Passbook" presentations from WWDC.  That should be enough to get started.

You will need an iOS developer program membership in order to create a "Pass Type ID" to identify your passes, which will be used to generate a certificate for signing the pass.  This part is done through the developer portal, requiring a $99 membership.  Everything else is really just creating JSON files and images in the right format and zipping up and digitally signing the bundle.

Although you can do it all by hand on the command line, this PassKitTool might be useful -

These are some good links that should provide some examples as well as techniques on how to create the Passbook Passes:

Hi Joanne (and all),

Regular product update notifications like these probably aren't
appropriate to forward to the Micronet list, unless they pertain to an
issue of great significance to campus IT staff.  Those interested in
receiving these notifications can, as you note, subscribe to the
appropriate external list.

Thanks, Joanne, for passing along the address of Apple's Northern
California Higher Education mailing list:
