[Micronet] Appointment of Ann Geyer Campus Chief Privacy and Security Officer

Shelton Waggener
I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Ann Geyer to the position
of Chief Information Privacy and Security Officer for UC Berkeley. Ann was
selected after an extended search and joins the campus to fill the newly
restructured position, which combines the responsibilities of the existing
Security Officer role with the ever-expanding challenges of policy and
privacy.

Ann Geyer has 25 years of experience in the Information Technology
industry, with background in product development, marketing, research, and
executive management. She brings to the campus extensive experience with
state and federal privacy and security regulations, including HIPAA,
FERPA, PRA, and IPA. Ann is thoroughly versed in program design, policy
development, incident investigation, awareness training, benchmarking, and
best practices, and has served as a privacy and security auditor for a
healthcare accreditation agency. Ann's in-depth understanding of the
emerging and constantly evolving challenges of information security
combined with her extensive experience in data privacy make her ideally
suited to this position.

Among Ann’s initial priorities are to work with campus departments to
implement plans to remove or secure Personally Identifiable Information
(PII, including Social Security numbers), partner with OP on updating the
many systemwide information security and data privacy policies, and
develop a strategic plan for the campus privacy and security efforts. Ann
will work closely with Campus Council Chris Patti and systemwide Privacy
Officer Russ Opland on these activities and will represent Berkeley on the
various system and state committees in the privacy arena

A graduate of UC Berkeley with a BA in Psychology and an MA in Statistics,
Ann also has an MBA from the Claremont Graduate School and a JD from
Concord Law School. She holds professional certifications in Information
Privacy (IAPP), Information Systems Security (ISC2), and Risk Management
(ASHRM).

Ann Geyer joins the Berkeley campus immediately, and will be located in
Earl Warren Hall. Please join me in welcoming Ann to the Berkeley
community!

Shelton Waggener
Associate Vice Chancellor and
Chief Information Officer
