[Micronet] Dell's higher educational pricing

Johnathon P. Kogelman
Chemistry needs to replace 30 staff computers during the '11-'2 fiscal year and we began looking at the available options via BearBuy. While researching our options we ran across a rather disturbing price disparity with the Dell Higher Education site.

Optiplex 390 Desktop
Intel i5 3.1GHz
4Gb DDR3, 250Gb HDD
512Mb video card, 16x DVD -/+
KB/Mouse, no display
3y on-site warranty

UCB Higher-Ed: $879.15  ($1,044.00 - $164.85 instant savings)
Dell Small Business:  $603.00  (968.00 - $365.00 instant savings)

Dell Latitude E5520
Intel i5 2.5Ghz
4Gb DDR3, 250Gb HDD
15.6" display
8x DVD -/+
3y on-site warranty

UCB Higher-Ed: $1,099.76  ($1,306.00 - $206.22 instant savings)
Dell Small Business:  $1,010.00  ($1,333.00 - $323.00 instant savings)

Dell Optiplex 380 Desktop
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93Ghz
4Gb DDR3, 250Gb HDD
256Gb video, 16X DVD -/+
KB/Mouse, no display
3y on-site warranty

UCB Higher-Ed:  $773.05  ($918.00 - $144.95 instant savings)
Dell Small Business: $614.00  (831.00 - $217.00 instant saving)

To purchase 30 units of the Dell Optiplex 390 desktops at the current UCB pricing, the college would be spending an addition $8,200.00 over the Dell Small Business online store.  For reference, purchasing 30 of a similarly spec'd Lenovo model would save $5,000 over the current Dell-UCB pricing.

Re: [Micronet] Dell's higher educational pricing

Seth Novogrodsky
Hi Johnathon,

If you contact Timothy Long, he can match or beat the Dell Small
Business price:

He's pretty responsive.

I agree that these sorts of price discrepancies should not happen.

Regards,
Seth
