[Micronet] FW: ACTION NEEDED: Survey to be completed by 12/21

Lucy Greco-2

Is this on the up and up ?

I don’t feel comfortable putting my employee id on a web form like this. It seems ok but really now they’re asking a lot of trust.

As well if our managers are going to review it why aren’t they answering it for us smile

Dear All,

Since announcing the decision to move forward with a Shared Services design, we have heard a clear desire from the campus community for the design to be based on timely, accurate data, and to take into consideration the very specialized HR, Finance, IT, and Research Administration needs of departments.

You have been identified as one of many staff campus-wide in the job field of Human Resources, Finance, Information Technology, Research Administration or General Administration. Our current systems do not allow us to easily construct a detailed picture of how administrative work is currently done, the resources needed to do that work, and work that employees do that may not be reflected by the job title. Therefore, we have created an online survey designed to capture that data.

The link below will take you to an online survey that will take roughly 15 minutes to complete. You will be asked to estimate as accurately as possible the percentage of time spent on specific functions, and for more information about work you do to support your department.  After you complete the survey, your data will be reviewed by your manager or supervisor for validation.

http://bit.ly/activitydetailsurvey

Your input is critical to the creation of a Shared Services design that will increase efficiency and ensure that departments remain properly staffed for work that needs to remain local.

Questions about the survey can be directed to your manager, [hidden email], or may be addressed here.

We appreciate your time and continued commitment to the future of Berkeley.

Best,

The Campus Shared Services Implementation Team

It is, and it's deadly serious.

But they did change the instructions just before launch to make the survey optional. Unions complained.

In reply to this post by Lucy Greco-2
Lucy,

My supervisor alerted me to this survey last week, so I knew it was
coming. Still, it's unnerving to see a bit.ly URL that says it's a
University-sponsored link!

This survey comes out of "Operational Excellence" and its
"Organizational Simplification Initiative", according to my supervisor.
This link:

http://oe.berkeley.edu/projects/orgsimp/FAQstest.shtml#Q42

on one of the FAQ pages about the "Shared Services"  project gives a
little more information.

Re: [Micronet] FW: ACTION NEEDED: Survey to be completed by 12/21

Bruce Satow
In reply to this post by Lucy Greco-2
I took the survey, but noticed some issues with it.  If you try to take
it again, the URL will say you cannot since you have taken the survey
already.    This is not true.

My browser is set to clear cookies and cache upon shutdown of
application.  So if you clear the cookies and cache you can take the
survey over and over again, skewing the data.   If you do this, it would
invalidate the survey since they would not be able to validate which
data you entered is correct.

Another issue.  Since you don't have a complete receipt of what answers
you have given to what questions, and yet the user has entered their
name and employee number, the contents can be modified or manipulated by
the folks giving the survey to how ever they wish to use it, and state
that the survey was completed by you.
