[Micronet] Incoming students, calnet and email

Richard DeShong-2
For incoming students, when they setup their calnet account, what is reason for not automatically creating their email account?

I talked with a number of people from other colleges, and they remember is being one step:  setup your account and get an email.

Re: [Micronet] Incoming students, calnet and email

Hi Richard,

Great Question!  The bConnected team has it on our list of future improvements.

In the meantime, we've been working with the SIS project & CalCentral to try and make it as easy as possible for incoming students to claim their bConnected Google account & email address.

Best,

Jon

Re: [Micronet] Incoming students, calnet and email

Richard DeShong-2
I asked because it seems more "normal" - meaning that I think this is what would typically be expected by the user.  And because a staff member spent quite some time trying to help a student (not onsite, so over the phone) with filling out a form that was only accessible to a berkeley.edu account holder.  The student assumed that because they has setup their calnet account, that they were done.  This assumption misdirected the over-the-phone troubleshooting.

We now know to ask them to log into bMail as the first step.
