[Micronet] Increased SPAM on Calmail

erol
I've been having an increased number of SPAM messages getting by the filter in Calmail, and this morning is got a lot worse.  Between 1:30AM and 4:35AM, I received aver 130 SPAM messages in my inbox, and my Mail junk filter caught about 50 more.  Has anyone else been experiencing an increase in SPAM?

I haven't seen more SPAM getting through.  In fact, I've been seeing the
opposite problem since I was migrated to bMail -- I'm getting usually a
few messages a day that get marked as spam on bMail that aren't and that
I need to see.  I've learned now that I have to remember to go every day
or two and check that spam folder in order to catch them.

Re: [Micronet] Increased SPAM on Calmail

Patrick Schmitz
I am seeing the same thing as Rune.

Main difference for me is performance. Mail can take 5 minutes to get from
campus user to me (yes, I am spoiled, but my expectation is for about 30
seconds tops). Also, having configured Outlook to talk IMAP to gmail (I find
the gmail webapp unusable), performance is really lousy. Regular pauses
fetching mail, periodic lock-ups "syncing folders", etc.

I hope this is lots cheaper, because it certainly is not better.

[Micronet] Google groups

Richard Moe
In reply to this post by Patrick Schmitz
Folks
Anyone who is using their berkeley.edu email address to administer a Google Groups
group might need to do something.

A colleague and I who administer a Google group found that the new google groups interface
does not give us administrator privileges when we log on from our berkeley.edu addresses.
There is a domain problem. We can still use the old google groups interface, and that's what we did
to give ownership to a non_berkeley email address.

Could this be because we are not on calmail anymore so that spam filtering system is now out of service for our mail, i.e. we are on google mail systems now?

Re: [Micronet] Increased SPAM on Calmail

erol
My issue was the spam setting on my Calmail account was set to "low".  I don't remember changing it, and I certainly didn't change it recently.  Perhaps I changed it a while ago and set it to "low" accidentally, and the recent burst of spam which got through was a change in the spam source that the filters were not yet catching.  Changing the setting to "high" has worked, but I'll have to watch my spam folder for mistakes.
