[Micronet] Reminder: Scheduled retirement of the IST Andrew File System (AFS) service

John Torres-O'Callaghan

To the UCB campus community:

As a reminder, the IST AFS service will be retired and no longer supported at the end of FY 2012-2013 (June 30, 2013).

No new storage volumes are being provisioned on AFS, however account support will continue during the transition period.

IST is seeking to guide the campus community toward services with more extensive support and a larger customer base.

On campus collaboration solutions:

·         bSpace – http://bspace.berkeley.edu

·         Calshare – http://calshare.berkeley.edu

·         IST NAS – http://storage.berkeley.edu

·         Research Hub – http://hub.berkeley.edu

The Operational Excellence Productivity Suite is providing the campus community with additional collaboration options from off-campus partners:

·         Box.com - https://technology.berkeley.edu/productivity-suite/box/index.html

·         Google Drive - https://technology.berkeley.edu/productivity-suite

We will continue to register new individual users for access to Software Central, and to existing group and project volumes as necessary during the transition period, until these resources are re-hosted.

Please send questions and comments to [hidden email]

Thanks for sending that out John!

I'd be interested in hearing from any groups that have not already got a plan to migrate off the AFS service within the next month.

For those still trying to evaluate their options, i pulled together some comparisons of some of the services together.  These are my observations, so if you see anything that you disagree on or need further information about, let me know.

Best,

Patrick

AFS support has ended. All access will be terminated on Wednesday July 31, 2013 and the appropriate teams will begin decommissioning the environment.

Thank you to all that have assisted by relocating your data.
