[Micronet] congratulations Paul Fisher

Michael R Mundrane
Colleagues,

I wanted to let you know that a valued staff contributor and respected
member of our IT community, Paul Fisher, has accepted a position
supporting large scale messaging at Twitter. Today is his last day of
employment at the University of California, Berkeley.

Paul starting working here in October 2004 and was a key part of the
famous “Dynamic Duo” that took over CalMail at a time when neither the
infrastructure nor the service was reliable or able to meet campus
needs. Assuming a leadership role for a service in crisis, Paul had a
vision for how the service should operate at a world-class institution.
His efforts to design a tightly coupled hardware/software solution
leveraging open source tools and capabilities produced a service of
superb quality. Over a very short period of time, email went from being
the service with the lowest rating on our biannual IST customer survey
to the most highly rated service. In 2009 these accomplishments were
recognized with one of the highest honors staff members can receive here
at Cal, when Paul and Jim Blair were awarded with a Chancellor’s
Outstanding Staff Award.

Email and calendaring are critical productivity tools for the
institution and we have all been extremely fortunate to have someone
with Paul’s technical capabilities and professional dedication
supporting them. He has set the bar very high. Paul has spent his last
weeks here engaged in ensuring a smooth transition of AFS, CalMail and
Calagenda. IST Campus Technology Services will continue to provide these
services through a combination of infrastructure and other support staff.

Please join me in expressing gratitude for Paul’s contributions to IST
and the university and to wish him the very best as he embarks on this
exciting next phase of his career.

Regards,

Michael.
